Freaky Friday ve Earth gibi hit şarkılarıyla tanınan rapçi Lil Dicky’nin (gerçek adı Dave Burd) yapımcılığını, yazarlığını ve başrolünü üstlendiği komedi dizisi Dave, 4 Mart’ta FXX’te başlıyor.
Dave Burd’ün yaşamına dayanan, onun kurgusal bir versiyonunu izleyeceğiz. Dave, 20’li yaşlarının sonunda banliyöde yaşayan nevrotik bir adamdır. This episode was key in Dave finding himself. With his childhood comedy, he was laughed at even though he thought he was laughing with them, kind of how Elz says, “You weren’t funny. You were funny.” By controlling the narrative of HOW he wants to be funny, Lil Dicky (“Somebody Suck Me” or his songs’ lyrics, for example) is the type of person he wants to be, putting himself in a position where he is truly laughing with everyone else. This is an improvement from wanting the approval of everyone. Now he is more of a “if they like me, they like me,and if they don’t, they don’t” mentality, which is liberating for him.
I think that Dave killing his younger self represents how he is creating the narrative of who he is instead of being someone he is not but also illustrates his growth as a person. When Dave finally went on stage, he got the SUPPORT of all the people in the audience, something his camp friends never gave. Even at the club GaTa was standing up for Dave when he was asked to move to a different section, saying ”I go hard for my homies.” Dave’s so-called friends would never stand up for Dave. Even Mike is working with his laptop in the club as Lil Dicky’s manager.
The final scene is even more powerful in understanding that Dave is happy with the person he has become, the rapper he has created, and his loyal, supportive friends by his side on stage. They are the real Day Ones.
